Based in Oita, Japan, he works as a freelance photographer involved in local and corporate PR, travel writing, and solo exhibitions.
In this feature, we asked him about his photography time, favorite filters, and how he captures light using TOKYO GRAPHER tools.
Q. What camera and lenses do you currently use?
I use the FUJIFILM GFX50S II with a GF80mmF1.7 R WR lens when shooting with filters.
I also regularly use a FUJIFILM X-T5 and film camera Nikon FM10, along with lenses like the XF35mmF1.4 R, MINOLTA MC Rokkor-PF 58/1.4, and AI Nikkor 50mm f/1.4.
Although I prefer shooting with film, the rising cost has led me to capture more daily moments digitally while experimenting to recreate the touch of film and filters in digital form.
Q. What does "photography time" mean to you?
It’s an irreplaceable time of self-reflection.
Q. A recent moment that made you feel “I’m glad I captured this”?
The changes in nature from the day my grandmother passed until her cremation—the stars, autumn leaves, and a rainbow.
These images bring back not just the day but all the feelings surrounding it.
Q. What is your favorite TOKYO GRAPHER product and why?
The OPF 550-L is my favorite.
I bought it after seeing sample photos, and it became my first filter. I love how this small addition lets me express two different styles with one lens. It creates a beautifully diffused light and soft atmosphere that fits my vision.
Q. What do you focus on when shooting with a filter?
I try to shoot when the sun is low in the sky. I also like experimenting on cloudy days or in low-light indoor settings, using filters without limiting myself to typical conditions. I approach each scene as a chance to try something new.
Q. How does the view change through a filter?
The light feels like it lingers longer, leaving an emotional aftertaste. It gives the photo a richness and sense of depth.
Q. Any favorite places or times to shoot?
The Kujū Highlands in Oita Prefecture—especially in the morning—is a favorite spot.
I’m also hoping to bring filters to upcoming evening events and festivals this season.
