TOKYO GRAPHER について

What is TOKYO GRAPHER?

Layer-X is a lens filter system designed for layering expression.

It consists of a screw-in BASE filter and magnetically attached PLUS filters that can be added on top.

By keeping a BASE filter mounted at all times, it offers everyday reliability, while allowing ND, CPL, cross filters, and more to be quickly layered only when needed.

A structure that makes adding expression fast, intuitive, and stress-free.

What are OPF and CDF filters?

OPF and CDF are optical filters designed to shape the mood and atmosphere of photos and videos at the moment of capture.

OPF (Optical Preset Filter) works on specific wavelength ranges to gently control color tone and the sense of air in an image.

It helps reflect the character of light—changing with time of day or weather—directly into the photograph as you shoot.

CDF (Cinematic Diffusion Filter) softly diffuses highlights and slightly smooths contrast and edges.

In backlit scenes or shots with point light sources, it creates a gentle bloom where light spreads subtly.

Neither filter is intended to apply strong or obvious effects.

By making small adjustments to the way light behaves, they help preserve the atmosphere and sense of distance of a scene—just as it felt at that moment.

What is the difference between OPF 480 / 550 / 650?

The difference between OPF 480, 550, and 650 lies in which wavelength range they affect, and how that changes the overall mood of an image. Each filter has a distinct direction in the way it shapes light.

OPF 480-C / S / L emphasizes clarity and transparency, creating a clean, crisp atmosphere. It works well for scenes such as morning light, highland landscapes, or dry winter air.

OPF 550-C / S / L produces soft, natural, and balanced light. It is less dependent on time of day or weather, making it an easy choice for everyday use.

OPF 650-C / L adds depth with a subtle warmth, creating a more dramatic tone. It is well suited for evening light or backlit scenes where you want light to linger with a sense of afterglow.

What is the difference between OPF C / S / L?

The C / S / L designation indicates the presence and amount of diffusion elements contained in the filter. Each type handles light in a slightly different way.

C (Clear)

C is a clear type that contains no diffusion particles. It emphasizes the transparency of the glass itself, working mainly on color tone and contrast.

No highlight bloom is added, keeping light crisp while introducing OPF’s characteristic color and sense of air.

S (Soft Light)

S contains a very small amount of diffusion. Highlights gain a subtle softness, resulting in a natural and restrained change.

It is easy to use with wide-angle lenses or in daylight, and suits those who want a gentle shift in atmosphere.

L (Light)

L contains more diffusion than S. Highlight bloom and the lingering quality of light become more noticeable.

It works well in backlit scenes or evening light, when you want to emphasize the character of light.

How can I use filters with the RICOH GR series?

To use filters with the RICOH GR series, a dedicated lens adapter is required.

The front of the GR series lens does not allow filters to be attached directly.

By using an official RICOH adapter or a compatible third-party filter adapter, standard screw-in filters can be mounted. This allows you to use TOKYO GRAPHER filters as well.

Once the adapter is attached, filters can be mounted, removed, and even stacked just like on a regular interchangeable-lens camera.

Layer-Xについて

What is Layer-X?

Layer-X is a lens filter system designed for layering expression.

It consists of a screw-in BASE filter and magnetically attached PLUS filters that can be added on top.

By keeping a BASE filter mounted at all times, it offers everyday reliability, while allowing ND, CPL, cross filters, and more to be quickly layered only when needed.

A structure that makes adding expression fast, intuitive, and stress-free.

How is Layer-X different from conventional magnetic filter systems?

Layer-X is a camera lens filter system designed to be used by layering a BASE Filter and PLUS Filters.
The BASE Filter is securely mounted to the lens using standard screw threads, just like a conventional lens filter.
PLUS Filters are then magnetically attached on top only when needed.
This structure maintains stability during everyday use, while allowing expressions to be layered quickly and smoothly.

How many filters can be stacked?

Layer-X is designed to support stacking up to two filters.

Depending on the lens angle of view and optical design, a setup with one BASE filter and one PLUS filter can be used naturally with most lenses.

Can Layer-X be used with ultra-wide-angle lenses?

Layer-X features a slim profile designed for stacking filters.

However, when used with ultra-wide-angle lenses wider than 24mm, vignetting may appear around the edges of the frame depending on the lens design and the number of filters stacked.

Lenses with a strongly protruding front element, or configurations using multiple stacked filters, are more likely to be affected.

If you are unsure, please feel free to contact us in advance with your planned lens setup.

Can OPF / CDF be used with Layer-X?

Yes.
The OPF 480 / 550 / 650 series, CDF-S / CDF-L, and the UV Protector can all be used as BASE filters within the Layer-X system.
While preserving the same glass characteristics as previous models, they allow expression to be layered seamlessly as part of the Layer-X system.

How do you rotate the CPL filter?

Conventional CPL filters adjust polarization using a rotating ring.

In contrast, the Layer-X PolumeCPL [PLUS] attaches magnetically to the BASE filter, allowing polarization to be adjusted by rotating the entire filter itself—without a separate rotating frame.

Even after mounting, adjustments remain intuitive and smooth, making fine tuning during shooting easy and natural.

Can a lens cap be attached?

The BASE filter of the Layer-X system features standard filter threads, just like a conventional lens filter.
This allows you to attach a lens cap or stack other screw-in filters on top.
PLUS filters, however, are designed for magnetic attachment and do not support standard screw-type lens caps.

Can Layer-X be used for video recording?

Yes.
ND and CPL filters can be attached and removed quickly, making Layer-X suitable for both still photography and video.
The ability to switch expressions without interrupting the shooting flow is especially useful when working with video.

I already own OPF / CDF filters. Can I attach PLUS filters?

Layer-X PLUS filters can only be stacked on Layer-X BASE filters.

PLUS filters are designed for magnetic attachment and do not have screw threads.

For this reason, they cannot be attached to filters other than Layer-X BASE filters, including conventional OPF / CDF filters on their own.

By using OPF / CDF models designed as Layer-X BASE filters,

you can stack PLUS filters such as ND, CPL, or cross filters on top.
