Layer-X BASE

OPF (Optical Preset Filter) is a camera lens filter designed to layer sensation into photography by controlling specific wavelengths of light, allowing balance, atmosphere, and a gentle sense of depth to emerge in the image.

With an optical design targeting wavelengths around 550 nanometers, OPF organizes the characteristics of green light, stabilizing color balance while subtly shaping light edges and overall transparency across the frame.

Two diffusion types are available: S / L, each offering a different level of light spread. L (Light) introduces a more expressive diffusion, creating clearer changes in highlight bloom and a smoother, more expansive spread of light, while maintaining a natural and well-balanced look.

As a BASE filter within the Layer-X system, OPF 550-L is designed for everyday use—a reference filter that preserves balance while gently widening the range of expression that can be layered on top.

OPF (Optical Preset Filter) is an optical camera lens filter created to layer into photographs the sensations we perceive with our senses—
the glare of light a camera cannot fully capture, the changing angle and intensity of light shaped by time and season,
and the color and temperature of the air that surrounds a scene.

It combines the gentle softness of light found in film photography with the clarity and resolution unique to digital imaging.
The result is depth and aftertaste that cannot be reproduced through digital processing alone.

Optical Preset Coating

An optical coating that controls wavelength-based reflection and transmission using multilayer dielectric films, presetting how light responds.

Diffusion Glass

While subtly diffusing light,
this optical glass layers natural softness on a foundation of high-resolution rendering.

Hydro Shield Coating

With water-repellent and anti-smudge coatings applied to both sides, water droplets and dirt are less likely to adhere, ensuring ease of handling even during everyday shooting.

Before and After of OPF 550-L [BASE]

This is a comparison between images taken with and without the filter.
In scenes with strong light sources, the filter softens the edges of light and introduces visible ghosting that enhances the sense of glare and atmosphere.
If you prefer to reduce ghosting, it can be minimized by adjusting the angle of the filter relative to the light source.
Maintains a natural sense of balance while gently shaping highlights and contrast.

Choose S or L by the Spread of Light

S (Soft Light) keeps light diffusion subtle, preserving edge definition and resolution while adding gentle changes to highlights and contrast. L (Light) allows light to spread more visibly, bringing stronger bloom in highlights and a more pronounced sense of atmosphere across the frame.

The perceived diffusion also varies depending on the focal length of the lens. As focal length increases, diffusion tends to appear weaker. For this reason, S is recommended for focal lengths of 35mm and below, and L for 50mm and above.

Layer-X BASE Filter

The starting point for layering light

The Layer-X BASE Filter is an optical filter that screws onto the front of the lens.
A built-in magnetic structure on the front allows ND, CPL, and cross PLUS filters to be layered as needed.

Standard lens caps can be attached without issue, and it handles like a conventional filter.
BASE serves as the starting point of the Layer-X system, expanding how light can be handled to suit different shooting styles.
