Chris Yiu ( @chrisyiuphoto )
Based in Hong Kong, Chris is a photographer who captures the quiet beauty of everyday life and travel with gentle, natural light. Over the past year, he has explored different regions of Japan, using his mirrorless camera and the TOKYO GRAPHER OPF 480-L filter to create soft, dreamy visuals that reflect his unique style. We asked Chris to share his thoughts on photography, favorite gear, and what “Photography Time” means to him.
Q. What do you keep in mind when taking photos?
Photography is about capturing the moment illuminated by light. Even the small, seemingly insignificant moments during my travels deserve to be photographed beautifully if the light is right.
Q. How has the OPF 480-L filter changed your photos?
I’ve always loved the light and airy look found in many Japanese photography styles. This filter gives my photos that same feeling—with soft flares and a subtle bluish tone that fits perfectly with my aesthetic.
Q. What camera and lenses do you use?
I shoot with a Canon EOS R. I used to rely heavily on the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM, but lately I’ve switched to the Lomography 2.8/50 Despina and 3.5/35 Thalassa for their analog feel and portability.
Q. What does ‘Photography Time’ mean to you?
Back when I worked as a wedding and travel photographer, that was my Photography Time. But now, the most meaningful moments come from traveling with my wife and capturing those shared memories.
Q. Do you have favorite places or times to shoot?
I love shooting in the Japanese countryside and suburbs. Mount Fuji is one of my favorite subjects—especially during dusk or dawn.

The "480" in OPF 480-L stands for the wavelength of light, 480 nanometers, which makes it possible to take clear pictures with vivid blue color.
L (light) represents the amount of light diffused by the special glass. The combination of these two elements enables new expressions that could not be achieved before.
